Cory Doctorow Talks Copyright
For those of you who don’t know who Cory Doctorow is, he is a freelance journalist, former director of European affairs for the EFF, a 4x college dropout and founder of an open source cola company. Doctorow makes a living giving away his books and other creative works for free, as well being the co-editor of Boing Boing, and contributing to WIRED, Guardian.co.uk, and Craphound.com. And I bet that you thought you have a busy schedule.
The upshot is that he is one of the foremost experts on the future of copyright in the digital space, and someone that anybody who is concerned about how to successfully distribute their content online should pay a lot of attention to. The 47 minute talk above was filmed at UNC Chapel Hill in 2007, and serves as a great example of how forward thinking Cory is. Sit back and enjoy.
Lastly, if you find that you want to delve deeper into his perspectives, I can highly recommend his book Content, which is available as a .pdf or plain text download for free here under a Creative Commons license and as a streaming audio version here.
