Use The Web: Sproutbuilder.com

This week, we are taking a look at Sproutbuilder.com, a website that allows you to generate your own rich media content  (widgets, banners, etc.) using an in-browser WYSIWYG editing interface. WYSIWYG stands for “What You See Is What You Get,” and these types of content creation tools are becoming increasingly prevalent in the online space. The appeal is their “pick up and play” nature, which allows users to generate content for their web pages with little to no knowledge of the underlying code.

After messing around with Sproutbuilder’s editor for a bit, I can honestly say that it is about as simplistic as it could possibly be. I still advocate at least investigating the background details of coding for rich media, as it will help in those inevitable situations where what you see might be what you get, but isn’t really what you want (unless, of course, you’re the type who prefers to believe everything is run on magic). With that being said, for the layperson out there, this is a great tool to enhance your basic web presence. Now your only barrier to entry is your skill as a visual designer.
