Artists House Vault: Careers in Arts Administration
Some of us have always known that we want to be part of the arts community, but have decided somewhere along the way that the largely unpredictable life of an artist is not a viable path for everyone.
Luckily, there are many other career paths that allow you to stay involved in the arts without having to live off of spam and cigarettes.
Considering a career in arts administration may allow you to keep one foot in the art world and one at home with your family, or just at home with a reliable paycheck.
Our first interview is with Ted Wiprud, Director of Education for the New York Philharmonic. He answers some questions about why you might want to pursue a career in arts administration and what it takes to do so.
Next we have George Howard delving into some of the opportunities that exist in arts administration.
Finally we have Glenn Taylor, Director of Marketing and Subscriptions for the Houston Symphony giving some advice for starting your arts administration career.
We hope that those of you who are passionate about the arts but have ruled out the life of an artist will find these videos inspirational!
