Alternative Revenue Streams - Songbooks

Publish your own songbooks:

I played in a decently successful band in high school (we had a lot of fun) and often had people send us emails and instant messages asking how to play the songs.  Even Nat (our bass player) would pester us about the guitar riffs and chords because he’d get bored with his bass parts at home.  So to keep everyone happy, Danny (guitar player) would tab out most of the songs and send them his way.

In hindsight, we should have taken the extra step — learned a little bit more theory — and put together the songs from the album.  I am positive we could have made some extra money and strengthend our relationship with a significant number of fans (I’m talking to you, Louis).

If you have the ability and knowhow, there is no reason that you shouldn’t just go ahead and do it.  And if you don’t I am sure you can use friends, family, the internet, or Barnes and Noble to get the knowhow to do it.

A songbook would help to bring your deeply passionate fanbase one step closer to the band… playing along with the songs… and help with the cash flow along the way.

VIA: Andrew and a great post over at New Rock Star Philosophy.
